Thank You | Left Coast Power Yoga

DCIM136GOPRO

A big thank you to our friends at Left Coast Power Yoga who hosted a fundraiser for us on Saturday night. A special thanks to Andrew Abrass for donating a trumpet and trombone for our 2014/15 Music Class.

We made $460 in one magical evening. Hooray!
Project HOPE Art is excited to announce the RHYTHM & RECYCLING workshop this fall to kick off the Music + Art Lab at the Project HOPE Art Center in Port-au-Prince, Haiti!

This November 2014, Bay Area artists Rachel Znerold and Melissa Schilling will travel to Haiti to collaborate with art teacher and musician Gueldy Rene on a week-long children’s music and art program —a multi-dimensional music, costuming and performance workshop, all inspired by and using recycled materials. Gueldy Rene will work with the students to learn the foundations of rhythm, beat, flow and connection, creating a musical composition with their motley array of recycled instruments (PVC Pipe Drums and 2Liter Bottle Horns), alongside donated ukeleles, guitars, kazoos, accordians, and traditional RaRa and Konpa instruments. Rachel Znerold, supported by other members of Project HOPE Art, plans to lead the students through a musical costume workshop, creating sound-making outfits and props out of recycled materials—imagine bottle-cap-string skirts jingling and plastic bag dresses swooshing, while all feet are tap-tapping to the beat of the musical accompaniment.

2nd Annual Voodoo Donor Dinner

‘Art is the Universal Language”

All we want to do is create bright, stress-free moments in time for the children who live in some of the poorest communities on earth. Right now we are focused on Haiti. The money we raise goes towards English Lessons to support our Art + Literacy programming;  Urban Agriculture projects to support our Art + Nutrition programming and a hell of a lot of glitter to support dancing and twirling in our Intentional Whimsy programming.

Thank you to all of the beautiful people who support our joyful endeavors. Thank you Beauregard Vineyards, Edna Valley Vineyard and Odonata Vineyard, Live Earth Farm and High Ground Organics, Massa Organics, Dave Kramer-Urner for the organic homebrewed IPA made with organic ingredients from 7 Bridges Cooperative, all the beautiful organic fromage from Garden Variety Cheeses and The Penny Ice Creamery for your delicious contributions — along with Farmer Becky at Monkeyflower Ranch, American Nomad and the entire Project HOPE Art team for making our second annual donor dinner a huge success.

We will be heading back to Haiti in January of 2013 for more art, laughter, learning, science and glitter tutu’s.

Sundresses for Haiti Keep Rolling In…

I’d like to give a special thank you to all the amazing seamstresses who continue to send in homemade sun dresses for HOPE Art’s Dress Drive. Our original goal was 30 dresses, a new one for each girl, and our count is now at 68 and still climbing!! It’s been incredibly heartwarming to watch them continue to come in.

For those of you that may not have sewing skills, but would like to support this project, HOPE Art has a new Kickstarter campaign running that we would like to also serve as a dress delivery trip in January. Only 18 days are left to reach our goal and receive all the money that has been pledged so far. Please consider skipping a latte for a day and donating $5 to make this special trip happen. Every little bit helps, thank you everyone!
