In tandem with the SIP containers, we also wanted to create a sustainable soil source for our plants so that’s where our worm bin comes into play! Through a process called vermicomposting, food scraps are fed to worms and transformed into a nutrient-rich compost for plants and gardens. We started a compost bin and created a mural for our students to understand the cycle of composting. Frankly, at first they thought we were crazy telling them that these magic worms would poop dirt that was good for their plants, but eventually they got the idea and decided they would take care of the worm bin!
