When Project HOPE Art was at Nadine’s orphanage in Port-Au-Prince this summer, it became abundantly clear just how few clothes many of her girls have. The things they do own are very worn at best, some just barely holding together. HOPE Art would like to change this, with a personal touch, by starting a Homemade Dress Drive. We are inviting all seamstresses, beginner or advanced, to make one or more simple sundresses (our goal is 30) which will be hand delivered to the orphanage on our next trip to Haiti. This project is being aided by an online pattern company “oliver + s”, who has kindly agreed to let us use their free sundress pattern, which you can download HERE. This well designed pattern was used to create this little pink number, which is officially “Dress #1”. Please use the comment box should you have any questions, and thanks in advance to all who take this on.
For the Christmas dress drive, when will you need dresses? I have a handful of women ready to sew, probably some time between mid-October and Halloween. Is that okay? Where shall I send them? We are so ready to help!!
We could receive them as late as January 15, 2014 to be delivered for Carnivale. Bt honestly, the girls are always growing and needing new dresses. So we will take them whenever you can finish them. No pressure and thank you so much for your support!
shipping address is: 2201 Carroll Street #5, Oakland CA 94606
~thank you~

We had so much fun making dresses yesterday. We will have at least 15 dresses to send within about two weeks. Can’t wait to send them and see what you think! Lisa Wheeler
