Visiting Artist Program

...seek beauty to find beauty.
Project HOPE Art is proud to announce its Visiting Artist Program (VAP).  This unique program was created to foster dialogue between artists, designers, and creative types alike with children in under-served communities in Port-au-Prince Haiti to foster art education, healing and growth.  Each quarter, an accomplished artist (visual artist, musician, performing artist, photographer, writer or other creative individual) is invited to visit and conduct workshops themed around a common goal of one of our project partners in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Artists will work directly with the children of a school, orphanage or medical center to complete art projects focused on purposeful joy, science education and principles of art.

We encourage a creative exchange between the artist and the children, as well as interactions with members of the community who agree to participate. The visiting artist also shares their creativity with the global community through a public performance or gallery exhibition, facilitated by Project HOPE Art, at the end of their residence.  If you are not personally interested in applying, please assist PHA in garnering a robust set of proposals by forwarding this notice to your respective communities.

Each residence runs for approximately two to four weeks, depending on the artist’s availability.  Each artist will work with a PHA partner in Port-au-Prince and has the option to also work with Jakmel Expresyon in the coastal town of Jacmel. Visit our Partners page to find out more about each of the programs we work with.

If accepted into the program, PHA will assist each artist with fundraising to reach the goal of $2000.  This fee will cover use of the Art Center, lodging and 2 meals per day at Haiti Communitere, on the ground transportation and translators as needed within Haiti, supplies to execute your project, fees for a performance or exhibition after your residency, a donation to your partner organization and administrative fees for PHA.  The artist is responsible for travel fees to and from Haiti, any additional food or drink and personal expenses. Project HOPE Art will provide administrative support for all fundraising,  projects and global community exhibitions or performances.

We are currently accepting letters of interest for 2016 and 2017.  Interested?
