Ghettos to Galleries Art Tour

Beginning in mid-August the Recology Artist in Residence Program will welcome three visiting artists from Haiti: Claudel CasseusRomel Jean Pierre, and Racine Polycarpe.
Sponsored by Project Hope Art, this mini-residency will enable the artists to use the student artist studio and scavenge for materials to make their art. The artists will work on-site for approximately one month and exhibit finished and in-process artwork at the Environmental Learning Center at 401 Tunnel Avenue during our September exhibition.
The artists belong to Atis-Rezistans, an artist collective in Port-au-Prince whose members use recycled materials to create assemblage art. Please join us for the exhibition:

Friday, September 20, 2013, 5 – 9 pm
Saturday, September 21, 2013, 1- 3 pm
Tuesday, September 24, 5 – 7pm, with an artist panel discussion from 7pm – 8pm

This show features artwork made by Kristin CammermeyerChad HasegawaRacine PolycarpeRomel Jean Pierre and Claudel Casseus, created during their residencies at Recology.

The exhibition will be held at our studio located at 503 Tunnel Avenue in San Francisco, and at the Environmental Learning Center at 401 Tunnel Avenue. The artist talk will take place at the Environmental Learning Center. See below for directions.

Directions to the Recology San Francisco Art Studio:

DIRECTIONS FROM DOWNTOWN SF and EAST BAY: Take Highway 101 south and exit at “Candlestick Park/Tunnel Ave.” After the stop sign, continue forward onto Beatty Road which ends at Tunnel Avenue. Turn right on Tunnel Avenue. Go half block to 503 Tunnel Avenue.

DIRECTIONS FROM COW PALACE: Go east on Geneva Avenue until you reach Bayshore Boulevard. Turn left on Bayshore Boulevard. Turn right on Blanken Avenue, then take a quick right turn onto Tunnel Avenue. 503 Tunnel Avenue will be on the left.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE PENINSULA: Go north on Highway 101 and take the first “Candlestick Park” exit. Turn left at the stop sign onto Alanna Way. Continue under the freeway where the road will curve. At the next stop sign, turn right on Beatty Road and continue to the end of the road. Turn right on Tunnel Avenue. Go a half block to 503 Tunnel Avenue.

PARKING: Street parking is usually easy unless there is a football game at Candlestick Park.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: The “T” Third Street streetcar and bus lines 8X, 9, and 9L stop at Bayshore Boulevard and Arleta Avenue (three blocks away). The Caltrain “Bayshore Station” stop is directly across the street from our facility.
